We have a new addition to our family of kitties. Her name is "Jelly Beans" aka Jelly Belly Beans. Can't help it she's too cute! Anyway, we adopted her through a no kill shelter called "Safe Haven". I need to share some info with you that really struck me and is so heavy on my heart. I talked with a few of the ladies that work at Safe Haven and found out some disturbing information. Did you know that on an average right now about 50 kitties a day are being put down at the humane societies? I am not judging because I now understand why this has to happen. Do you understand why? It is because there are so many kitties that get dropped off on a daily basis that the shelters cannot keep up with them. It cost them an average of $100 a kitten/cat to have them ready for a new owner. Some of them are adopted out and many are not. People rarely want a cat they prefer a kitten however, neither are getting homes lately. I want to mention that this problem is because the out door mama cats are not getting spayed by the owners. They keep having kittens and again the vicious cycle continues. I was horrified today to find this out. There are waiting lists for kittens/cats of about 3 months before even "no kill shelters" can take them. I look at their beautiful, curious, want to be loved faces and just cringe at the fact that there time may run out before they are put down. I am donating a couple pieces of my work to Safe Haven to raffle off and all procedes go to their organization. I am excited to be a part of this and at least make a contribution.

I am putting several links to local (here in West Georgia) shelters and places that can help you if you have questions and need to know your options. If you are interested in donating please contact these shelters. They need and will accept any amount.
